The Bo-Kaap is a quaint suburb above the central business district of Cape Town, the area was given to freed slaves as an area to be developed for housing. The majority of people living is this area are Muslim and have deep rooted cultural history and pride which is displayed in the beautifully colourful houses of the area.
Spices were brought from Asia on Dutch trade ships in the 1600’s and the local cuisine has adopted a style of fragrant spiced foods, known as Cape Malay.
